Of course you can take your camera, put it on a tripod and take pictures when turning the item every say 30 degrees. But what will you do when you need for example to have the object hanging like a bike, shall you rotate around it with your tripod? What if it is a life model and will have to stand still during the time you move around? And what will you do when having tens, hundreds or thousands of items to shoot and present like this? How do you get a 3D product photography easily?
In that case you may want to use some special 3D equipment that will help you. There are several producers that offer solutions for automatic 3D photo production. Some of them are so-called one-button-solutions. It is usually a kind of a box that is connected to your camera and computer. In the software controlling the whole process you may select your own setting - speed of rotation, number of shots, lightening etc. The process is then finished by in-built software for postproduction. More sophisticated 3D product photography equipment consists of various combinations of hardware i.e. special turning tables and platforms, portals, arms that can be combined according to the needs of your 360 degree studio.
These special products have the same functions as the one-button solutions, they are connected to your computer and camera and through the controlling software you may set up number of shots per spin, speed, lightening etc. They are usually created on a brick-box principle which means you may add more of them and combine them without having to re-equip the whole studio, they fit with your lights etc. In the whole process you may then choose different programs for post processing and 3D publishing and there are company specialists who will help you to find the best.
When searching for the right solution for you, think twice of the future plans your studio. You may want to start from the basics, try one workplace and then add more of them if the business goes well. Not all of the solutions are of the same usability and range of application and enable you to do this. And of course there are price differences. The easies looking solutions are not always the cheapest just because you may find it not suitable after your business does exactly what you want - grows!
Before upgrading your e-shop to the third dimension, think twice (or three times)!
